Big Dipper

Big Dipper

New frontier for me here, photographing starry skies with ground object visible. Even as low in the sky as it is, the Big Dipper is very prominent in this photograph. I have been waiting all of the rainy week for the skies to clear while I am here next to the Pennsylvania mountains. I just let the camera pick the exposure, then post-processed in Aperture to bring out more details. I’m shooting in RAW which does a good job of responding to calls for detail in post-processing. I also got a pretty good shot of the Milky Way, as well. I started to pick up star trails the look more like blur with my long exposure on the Milky Way, so it looks best in smaller resolutions. Both images taken with the Tokina 11-16mm ultra wide angle lens.
