Bloodroot

Bloodroot

Yesterday, no sign of Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis). Today, it has popped up everywhere and will be in full bloom by tomorrow. Our sudden spring–extended stretch of thirties for the previous three weeks, seventies this week–has spring working over time to catch up. The profound change has taken many species from nothing to bloom in a matter of three days for hepatica, trout lily, dutchman’s breeches, bloodroot, toothwort, spring beauty, to name a few on the trail I frequent. Camera, Nikon D90; lens, Micro-Nikkor 60mm AF. I rested the camera on the ground and let the autofocus do the work, adjusting the height a little over several shots to get one that had the framing and focus I needed.
