A doe and her two adolescent fawns

We Are Family

A white-tailed deer doe has been raising her two fawns among the backyards in our neighborhood all summer.  The fawns have lost their spots now. They are nearly full-grown. The mother saw me with my camera, and actually took several steps toward me.  I presume she was keeping herself between me and the youngsters, though I can’t rule out that she was wondering if a handout was coming. The suburban deer here are increasingly brave. She was on full alert in any case. Taken with a Nikkor 70-300mm AF-S ED AF Nikon telephoto zoom. I have the ISO high because of the subdued morning light. These consumer telephotos struggle in low light with their unimpressive apertures, but ISO saves the day.
