Light Bulb, lit, in a hand

Light Bulb

Alrighty, then. Not really sure where I was going with this one. It was 11:30 pm and I had not taken my One Picture a Day, is the only explanation on I can offer. It’s a light bulb, lit, and held in a bare hand. Actually, it is being held in front of a bright LED flashlight. I shot it in a dark room; the light bulb was the only thing lit.  I’ve been experimenting with making things glow with this bright LED flashlight. My hand makes a rather curious shape, like a reptile attempting to swallow the bulb. That’s all I really can say. Make of it what you will, but remember it’s copyrighted.

This photo was taken with a Nikon D90. I used my best cheap macro lens, the Nikon 60mm f/2.8 AF Micro-nikkor. ISO 800, f/3.2; 1/160 sec. Exposure value was boosted +1 stop in camera. Back in my film days, I remember reading about pulling and pushing the exposure; I never did it in film, because film prints were so precious that I wanted to stay with the sure thing, the metering recommended by the camera. With digital, I find myself playing with exposures much more in camera, plus playing even more post-processing. Yay digital! Everything in this shot was hand held. If I were not pressed for time, I would have gotten out the tripod to give me a few more options for exposure or composition. Post-processing was limited to standard Aperture enhance. There is not a lot to work with in such a dark photograph without getting into the crazy filters, the standard dials and buttons did not make much difference.

By the way, switch to CFLs already and quit your whining.
