Some proof of concept work here. I was experimenting with achieving a black background. I did not have a black backdrop handy, so I stepped outside into the dark yard with a Nikon SpeedLight SB-600. I’m not the greatest hand model, so I found a stump to prop it on. A little playing in Aperture, especially contrast and some desaturation, and voila, we have Tomato on Stump. Not sure where to classify it. Still life, maybe? Camera was a Nikon D90 DSLR; lens was the Micro-Nikkor 60mm AF macro lens.
