Marsh Marigold Cluster UV

Marsh Marigold Ultraviolet

I continue to work on my ultraviolet photography technique with a visit to marsh marigolds. Marsh marigolds were my first “successful” ultraviolet subject last year when I first tried my equipment. Marsh marigolds display very prominent nectar guides in UV. This time around I feel I have a better handle on taking such photographs. The […]

Infrared Dormer

After yesterday’s experiments with a ultraviolet filter, I took the infrared filter out for a spin. I was landlocked today, unable to get away from the house, so I took a picture of the house…and a wispy blue sky.

Ultraviolet Dandelion

Spring has finally progressed far along enough that I have some subjects for my ultraviolet-sensitive camera. Many flowers have ultraviolet (UV) nectar guides. Snow Trillium, infrared

Snow Trillium Infrared

Many other flowers are beginning to sprout in this sudden spring. The snow trillium blossoms will fade, and other colorful suitors will distract the […]

North Park IR

A long stretch of cold, cloudy late-winter weather is making for some somber photography sessions. I took my IR-modified camera out to North Park (in a suburb of Pittsburgh) today to see if I could generate anything interesting. I focused mostly on some of the more interesting buildings. Because the grayness of the day and […]

Cat curled in chair, in black and white

Rosie’s Chair

Some photographers like to take pictures of the same convenient model, such as their own child, a spouse, or a pet. Often it’s just to test a technique. But sometimes they turn into a famous series in their own right. Perhaps Rosie the cat may become my muse.

Cemetery Vaults Infrared

Infrared Cemetery

Today’s One Picture project was not intended to be gloomy, but somehow that’s what happens when photographing in cemeteries. Today I wanted to play more with infrared and the FujiFilm IS Pro UVIR DSLR. I went to a cemetery near my house. My intention was to take some shots of the huge old trees there, […]
