Ruby-throated Hummingbird female at a feeder port. I am photographing hummers today. I am using a flash. My Nikon D90 syncs at 1/60th of a second with the Nikon SpeedLight SB600. I am using a diffuser and dialing down the flash one full stop. The lens is a Nikkor 70-300mm AF-S ED VR. A sixtieth of a second is barely enough to catch this thing. I swear the thing would detect my flash and start moving away before the shutter could open! This is the best of the lot of about a dozen takes. A dozen takes isn’t trying very hard, but I think the hummer got annoyed with me; it stopped coming back to the feeder for the remainder of the time I had available. Anyway, it’s kind of an interesting shot.
