Experimenting with flash in the dark. The camera is the Nikon D90; the lens is the Micro-Nikkor 60mm AF; the flash is the Nikon SpeedLight SB-600 with an alcohol bottle diffuser. Some days it seems a little silly to have a recycled bottle perched atop nearly two grand in photography equipment (well, two grand when it was new), but it works. I use the flash with this diffuser on much more often than I use it bare. It just does such a nice job of softening the flash. This is a common sight at my house. My son shoots baskets for hours a day, and into the night if he hasn’t had enough time during daylight.
